Oh, it is almost Christmas. That time of year where most of the Northern Hemisphere is freezing, trying to thaw out with capital gains under cut up pine trees. I love Christmas, please don’t get me wrong. But as a writer and human being, I have a skeptical side, it’s my job I hired myself for.
This link helps me out, and if you would like a deal on books ($0.99 to $2.99), including my own if you have yet to pick it up and read it, check this link, I appreciate it: DISCOVER
In Science News, DARPA is at it again, and posting this link will probably get me on that list I think I’m already on. POWER
As in my first novel, Brian, Created Intelligence, I wrote about DARPA infiltrating a biotechnology company in hopes of militarizing a human brain believed to be an Artificial Intelligence. DARPA has reported something they call POWER, Persistent Optical Wireless Energy Relay (POWER) program. Good for them of making such an acronym. So in fiction they take over a human brain, in reality they take over the sky. SkyNet anyone? Terminator… It was brought about in September, but who really has the time to read everything the most powerful organization in the world does? I don’t. I’m a new dad, pup father, and husband who has a full time job in pharmaceuticals who likes to barbecue and bake bread, and write, I didn’t forget that one.
Essentially, DARPA is creating ‘beams of energy’ that can be transmitted across the entire US, in the sake of National Security (of course…). Electric drones hovering through the sky, holding power for transmission for other electric drones, wild. This reminds me of Amazon’s patent on a floating warehouse from 2018, yes, you read that correctly: Big Floater
Are they linked? Who knows, but I have my suspicions one of the largest companies in the world and the world’s most powerful agency may possibly be in cahoots. Too serious for you? Well, I have a short story about a cat in a box…
In cool writing news, a writing friend of mine, Carla Ra, had a short story audio published! Wild Pistols
She is an exceptional writer with a different short on simulation that will leave you questioning what kind of computer is the universe. (That isn’t published yet but I was lucky enough to beta read it for her and it’s amazing.)
Besides all the links and Christmas rush, I am working diligently on having two novels published next year. I will probably announce in January. It truly is a lot of work, just thinking about all the steps to properly publish a full length novel is exhausting. Which reminds me, I was perusing Tor.com the other day and saw a trailer for a movie by Alex Garland, Civil War. As stressful as that possible reality is, it looks amazing, and is a hint at my upcoming novel. Timing is everything, and sometimes strange. For now, Merry Christmas, Happy HondaDays, I hope you are warm and content over the whitewashed holiday that is now a real corporate account banger. Keep on reading, and I’ll keep writing.
Cheers,
AJ
